Nathaniel Borenstein (born September 23, 1957) is an American computer scientist best known for co-inventing the MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) standard, which revolutionized email by enabling the transmission of non-text content such as attachments, images, and audio. He has worked at Carnegie Mellon University, Bellcore, and IBM, contributing to systems like the Andrew Message System and Safe-Tcl. His work fundamentally shaped modern internet communication infrastructure, making him a key figure in email technology development.
