Quote by Seraphim of Sarov

“The body is a slave, the soul a sovereign, and therefore it is due to Divine mercy when the body is worn out by illness: for thereby the passions are weakened, and a man comes to himself; indeed, bodily illness itself is sometimes caused by the passions.”

Seraphim of Sarov (August 1, 1754 – January 14, 1833) is one of the most venerated saints in the Russian Orthodox Church, renowned as a mystic and spiritual guide. Born in Kursk to a merchant family, he entered the Sarov Monastery at age 17. After years of extreme asceticism in the forest, including living alone in a hut and praying for a thousand nights on a rock, he became known for his humility and wisdom. In his later years, he received visitors, offering counsel on acquiring the Holy Spirit and inner peace. His teachings, especially the 'Acquisition of the Holy Spirit,' have deeply influenced Orthodox spirituality. He was canonized in 1903, and his relics are enshrined at the Sarov Monastery. more

“The United Nations would probably have to rest on two pillars: one constituted by an assembly of equal executive representatives of individual countries, resembling the present plenary, and the other consisting of a group elected directly by the globe's population in which the number of delegates representing individual nations would, thus, roughly correspond to the size of the nations.”

“Selection [of UN delegates] by governments cannot give the peoples of the world the feeling of being fairly and proportionately represented. The moral authority of the UN would be considerable enhanced if the delegates were elected directly by the people. Were they responsible to an electorate, they would have much more freedom to follow their consciences.”

“My vision of a better world would be one under the control of a strong United Nations, one that truly has the support of all countries in the world. Only an effective world government could provide sufficient law and have the power to control the unboundaried destructive forces of pollution and war.
