Shastri's tenure was marked by his leadership during the 1965 India-Pakistan War and the historic Indo-US nuclear deal. He is known for his simplicity and his slogan 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan', which means 'Hail to the Soldier, Hail to the Farmer'. He passed away on January 11, 1966, while in office. more
