Paul Tergat (born June 17, 1969) is a Kenyan former long-distance runner, renowned for his achievements in marathon and cross-country running. He won silver medals in the 5000 meters at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics and set multiple world records, including the 10 km road race record in 1999. In 2003, he became the first person to run a marathon under 2 hours 5 minutes, with a time of 2:04:55 at the Berlin Marathon. Tergat also claimed five World Cross Country Championships titles. After retiring, he engaged in philanthropy, supporting sports development in Kenya. He is celebrated as a legend in athletics. more

“When I was about 14 or 15, and running in a pretty muddy cross country race, one of my shoes stuck in the mud and came off. Boy, was I wild.
