Robert Gottlieb (born April 29, 1931) is an American writer, literary critic, and editor. He served as editor-in-chief of The New Yorker and editorial director at Simon & Schuster, where he discovered and nurtured many important writers. Known for his sharp literary judgment and rigorous editing style, Gottlieb edited works by Joseph Heller, John le Carré, and others.
