Richard Ashcroft (born September 11, 1971) is an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the alternative rock band The Verve. Rising to fame in the 1990s, Ashcroft led the band to international success with their album Urban Hymns (1997), which featured the iconic single Bitter Sweet Symphony. After The Verve disbanded in 2000, he embarked on a solo career, releasing albums such as Alone with Everybody (2000) and Human Conditions (2002). His music blends rock, psychedelia, and soul, and he is regarded as a key figure in the Britpop and post-Britpop movements. more
