Mokshagundam Visvesvaray
Mokshagundam Visvesvaray was an Indian engineer, administrator, and scholar, recognized for his contributions to civil engineering and his administrative role in the Mysore State. Born on September 15, 1860, and passing away on April 12, 1962, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955. Visvesvaraya completed his civil engineering education at the College of Engineering, Pune, and started his career in the Public Works Department of the Mysore State. He later became the Diwan of Mysore, serving from 1912 to 1918. His engineering achievements include the design and construction of key infrastructure projects like the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam, which remains operational. His work in irrigation, water supply, and drainage systems had a profound impact on the living conditions in Mysore State. Visvesvaray is also remembered as a visionary leader and an exemplary administrator. His commitment to public service and his innovative engineering solutions continue to be a source of inspiration.
