Benjamin Mkapa, former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, was born on November 12, 1938. He is a politician and military leader with extensive experience in both political and military fields. Mkapa served as the Minister of Defense and General Secretary of the Revolutionary Party. He was elected President of Tanzania in 1995 and served until 2005. During his presidency, Mkapa promoted social and economic development in Tanzania, strengthened cooperation with other African countries, and worked to combat corruption and promote democracy.
