Carlo Rubbia (born March 31, 1934) is an Italian particle physicist and Nobel laureate. In 1984, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics together with Simon van der Meer for their decisive contributions to the discovery of the W and Z particles. His groundbreaking work provided experimental confirmation of the electroweak unification theory, fundamentally advancing human understanding of the basic structure of matter and the fundamental forces of the universe.
