Chico Mendes was a Brazilian environmentalist and rubber tapper who became a leading figure in the fight against deforestation in the Amazon. Born on December 15, 1944, in Acre, Brazil, Mendes dedicated his life to protecting the rainforest and advocating for the rights of indigenous people and rubber tappers. He was assassinated on December 22, 1988, at the age of 44.
