Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate and the son adopted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was born on January 31, 1543, and died on June 1, 1616. Rising from the战国 period, he unified Japan through a series of military and political maneuvers, establishing the Tokugawa shogunate and initiating the Edo period, which lasted for 265 years.
