Guillaume-Chretien de Lamoignon de Malesherbes was a prominent French statesman during the French Revolution, known for his advocacy of constitutional monarchy and the rule of law. A lawyer, journalist, and politician, he was a member of the Estates-General and the National Constituent Assembly, where he fought for the rights of the Third Estate against the monarchy. Imprisoned and executed by the revolutionary government, Malesherbes remains a symbol of the struggle for liberty and justice.
