Rolfe Humphries
Rolfe Humphries (1894-1969) was an American poet, translator, and educator known for his classical-inspired poetry and Latin literary translations. A graduate of Amherst College and Columbia University, he taught at Columbia for many years. Humphries gained recognition for his refined poetic style, often drawing on classical mythology and sports imagery. His translations of Ovid remain highly regarded in English-speaking literary circles. He served in World War I and was an active figure in New York's literary scene during the 1930s and 1940s.
