
Oseola McCarty
Oseola McCarty was an African American domestic worker who gained national attention for her generous donation of $150,000 to the University of Oklahoma. Born on March 7, 1908, in rural Mississippi, she spent much of her life in Oklahoma, working as a domestic worker. Her act of generosity, which she earned through her own hard work and savings, inspired many and highlighted the importance of education and the power of giving back. McCarty passed away on September 26, 1999.
