Schoolly D (born Jesse Michael Weaver, June 22, 1962) is an American rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, widely recognized as one of the pioneers of gangsta rap. His 1985 self-titled debut album, featuring the classic track "P.S. I Love You," is considered a landmark in hip-hop history. Schoolly D's explicit lyrics depicting urban life and street culture helped establish the gangsta rap genre, influencing numerous artists who followed. He was signed to Jive Records and also ventured into voice acting and film appearances.
