
Stephanie Herseth Sandlin
Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (born December 3, 1970) is an American politician and attorney who served as a U.S. Representative from South Dakota from 2004 to 2011. She made history as the first woman elected to Congress from South Dakota. A Democrat, Sandlin focused on agriculture, veterans' affairs, and energy policy during her tenure. She was defeated in the 2010 election by Republican Kristi Noem and subsequently transitioned to legal consulting and public affairs work.
