Lee Harvey Oswald was an American former marine and alleged assassin of President John F. Kennedy. Born on October 18, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was raised in Texas and Florida. His life was characterized by a series of jobs and movements, including a brief tenure in the United States Marine Corps, defection to the Soviet Union, and a return to the United States. He was arrested and charged with the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald, but he was shot and killed while in police custody on November 24, 1963, just two days after Kennedy's assassination.
