Louis-Joseph Papineau, a lawyer, was born on October 7, 1786, and died on September 23, 1871. He was an early Canadian politician and a member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec, as well as the leader of the 1837 Rebellion (also known as the Papineau Rebellion) against British colonial rule.
