Ma Ying-jeou (born July 13, 1950) is a former President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and former Chairman of the Kuomintang. Born in Hong Kong with ancestral roots in Hunan, he earned a law degree from National Taiwan University, an LL.M. from New York University, and an S.J.D. from Harvard Law School. He served as Taipei Mayor and held various ministerial posts before winning the presidency in 2008, serving until 2016. His tenure focused on cross-strait economic cooperation through the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) and maintaining peace based on the 1992 Consensus. Post-presidency, he remains active in cross-strait exchanges.
