Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (May 8, 1753 - July 30, 1811) was a Mexican priest and a key figure in the Mexican War of Independence. He is known as the 'Father of Mexican Independence' for his role in leading the revolution against Spanish colonial rule, particularly for his famous cry of independence at the town of Dolores on September 16, 1810.
