Milarepa (1052-1135), a prominent poet and founder of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, was born in the southern part of Tibet. He became a monk at a young age and went through various hardships, eventually achieving a high level of spiritual realization. Milarepa's poetry is highly valued for its literary quality, and his life story is widely spread in Tibetan Buddhism.
