Mstislav Rostropovich was a celebrated cellist, conductor, and composer. Born on March 27, 1927, in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, he was a Soviet and later Russian musician. Rostropovich's career spanned several decades, during which he performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and soloists. He was also a professor at the Moscow Conservatory and a recipient of numerous awards and honors.
