Oscar Micheaux (January 2, 1884 – March 25, 1951) was an African American author, film producer, and director, recognized as a pioneer of early African American cinema. Born in Illinois, he worked as a farmer and railroad porter before turning to writing, publishing several novels. In 1919, he founded his own film company and produced numerous films targeting African American audiences, challenging racial stereotypes.
