Abel P. Upshur was a prominent figure in the early 19th century United States, serving as the 6th United States Secretary of State under President Martin Van Buren. Born on June 17, 1790, in Prince George's County, Maryland, he passed away on February 28, 1844, in Washington, D.C. Known for his contributions to American diplomacy, Upshur played a pivotal role in negotiating the Oregon Treaty of 1846, which settled the boundary between the United States and Great Britain in the Oregon Country.
