
Phil Linz
Phil Linz (born June 4, 1939) is a former Major League Baseball player who served primarily as a shortstop. He played for the New York Giants (San Francisco Giants), Philadelphia Phillies, and most notably, the New York Yankees during the 1960s. Linz is best remembered for a famous incident on August 4, 1964, when he was hit in the face by a pitch from Pedro Ramos during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies, triggering a memorable bench-clearing brawl. As a shortstop, Linz was known for his solid defensive skills and reliable fielding. He was a member of the 1964 World Series champion New York Yankees team.
