Pope Sixtus V, originally named Francesco Perini, was the 236th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, serving from 1585 to 1590. His pontificate was marked by the extensive reconstruction and expansion of the Vatican City, including the rebuilding of St. Peter's Basilica and the construction of St. Peter's Square.
