Robert Gottlieb (born April 29, 1931) is an American writer, literary critic, and editor. He served as editor-in-chief of The New Yorker and editorial director at Simon & Schuster, where he discovered and nurtured many important writers. Known for his sharp literary judgment and rigorous editing style, Gottlieb edited works by Joseph Heller, John le Carré, and others. He also authored several books, including "Reading Diaries" and "Avid Reader." Gottlieb is widely regarded as a key figure in 20th-century American literature and publishing.
