Roberto Di Matteo (born May 29, 1970) is an Italian former professional soccer player and manager. He played as a midfielder for clubs including Lazio and Chelsea, known for his passing accuracy and long-range shooting. As a player, he helped Chelsea win the 1997 FA Cup and 1998 League Cup. After retiring, he became a manager, most notably leading Chelsea as interim coach to win the 2012 UEFA Champions League and FA Cup. His tactical acumen and leadership during that campaign are widely praised. Di Matteo also managed West Bromwich Albion and Schalke 04. He represented Italy at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 1996.
