
Oscar Micheaux
Oscar Micheaux (January 2, 1884 – March 25, 1951) was an African American author, film producer, and director, recognized as a pioneer of early African American cinema. Born in Illinois, he worked as a farmer and railroad porter before turning to writing, publishing several novels. In 1919, he founded his own film company and produced numerous films targeting African American audiences, challenging racial stereotypes. His works often explored themes of race, identity, and social justice, leaving a lasting impact on African American culture and film history.
