Vladimir Dzhanibekov (born May 13, 1942) is a Soviet/Russian cosmonaut who flew five space missions, making him a key figure in the Soviet space program. He is known for his long-duration stays on Salyut space stations, multiple spacewalks, and the accidental discovery of the 'Dzhanibekov effect'—a phenomenon where a rotating object in microgravity periodically flips its axis. His career spanned the golden age of Soviet space exploration, contributing to space station technology and operational experience.
