Sarah Orne Jewett was an American novelist recognized for her regionalist and naturalist writing. Born on September 3, 1849, in South Berwick, Maine, she spent much of her life in the coastal town of Cape Porpoise. Her works often depicted the life and culture of the New England coast, particularly Maine. Jewett's writing is known for its vivid descriptions of nature and its focus on the human condition. She passed away on June 24, 1909.
