Sherwin B. Nuland (December 8, 1930 - March 3, 2014) was an American surgeon, author, and medical ethicist. A professor emeritus at Yale School of Medicine, he gained worldwide recognition for his exploration of death and dying. His bestselling book "How We Die" won the National Book Award and profoundly influenced public understanding of mortality and end-of-life care.
