Silius Italicus was a Roman poet and statesman who lived during the 1st century AD. He is best known for his epic poem "Punica," a 17-book work depicting the Second Punic War between Rome and Carthage. He served as consul in 68 AD during Nero's reign and died around 101 AD at approximately 75 years old. Silius was noted for his imitation of Virgil's style and his work represents the longest surviving Roman epic poem.
