Simă Yán, also known as Sima Yan, was a prominent politician and the founding emperor of the Western Jin Dynasty. Born in 179 and died on September 7, 251, he was a member of the Sima family, a powerful family during the Three Kingdoms period. Sima Yan rose to prominence during the late Eastern Wei Dynasty and eventually established the Western Jin Dynasty in 265, ending the long period of the Three Kingdoms.
