Spotted Tail, whose real name was Tȟašúŋka Witkó, was a renowned American Indian chief of the Lakota tribe. Born in 1823, he died on August 5, 1881. Spotted Tail was known for his mediation and diplomatic skills within the Lakota tribe and in interactions with white settlers.
