Stuart Hameroff (born July 16, 1947) is an American anesthesiologist and consciousness researcher. He is best known for co-developing the 'Orchestrated Objective Reduction' (Orch OR) theory with physicist Roger Penrose, which proposes that consciousness arises from quantum processes in microtubules within brain neurons. Hameroff is a professor of anesthesiology and psychology at the University of Arizona and has long been dedicated to the scientific study of consciousness, bridging quantum biology and neuroscience.
