Suzanne Pleshette (January 31, 1937 – January 19, 2008) was an American actress best known for her role as Emily Hartley on the television sitcom The Bob Newhart Show. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she studied at Syracuse University and New York University, and made her Broadway debut in The Miracle Worker. Her career spanned film, television, and stage, with notable roles in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds and the film Romeo and Juliet. Known for her distinctive husky voice and comedic timing, she received Emmy nominations and later worked in voice acting. She died of respiratory failure at age 70.
