
Li Peng
Li Peng (October 20, 1928 – July 22, 2019) was a Chinese politician who served as the Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China from 1988 to 1998, and as Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress from 1998 to 2003. A key figure during China's reform and opening-up era, he oversaw economic retrenchment policies and the decision to build the Three Gorges Dam. His career spanned critical transitions from planned economy to market-oriented reforms.
