Takenaka Shigekata (1828-1891) was a Japanese samurai and government official during the late Edo and Meiji periods. Born into the Takenaka clan in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture), he was a descendant of the famous strategist Takenaka Shigeharu (Hanbei). Shigekata served as a retainer of the Owari domain before joining the Meiji government after the 1868 Restoration. He held various posts in the Justice Ministry and local administration, contributing to legal reforms and regional development. Known for his pragmatic approach, he helped bridge the gap between feudal traditions and modernization. In his later years, he focused on education and social welfare. His work, though less prominent, played a vital role in Japan's transition to a modern state.
