Terence MacSwiney (1879-1920) was an Irish playwright, poet, and revolutionary. Born in Cork, he was a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and founded the Cork Irish Volunteers. As Lord Mayor of Cork during the Irish War of Independence, he was arrested by British authorities in 1920 and died after a 74-day hunger strike in Brixton Prison, becoming an international symbol of Irish resistance.
