Solomon Caesar Malan
Solomon Caesar Malan (April 22, 1812 – November 25, 1894) was a British Anglican clergyman, Orientalist, and translator. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, he moved to England and mastered multiple languages, including Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and Chinese. Malan is renowned for translating Eastern religious texts and biblical works, particularly introducing Chinese classics and Hindu scriptures to Western academia. His works encompass comparative religion, linguistics, and historical research, significantly influencing 19th-century Western understanding of Eastern cultures. He served as an Anglican priest and taught Oriental languages at Oxford University. His notable publications include 'Comparative Studies of Chinese Classics and the Bible' and 'Selected Translations of Hindu Scriptures.'
