Thomas A. Dorsey (July 1, 1899 – January 23, 1993) was an American pianist, composer, and choir director, widely known as the 'Father of Gospel Music.' Born in Georgia, he was influenced by blues and jazz before turning to religious music. He composed over 400 gospel songs, including the classic 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord.' Dorsey revolutionized African American religious music by blending blues rhythms with Christian hymns, profoundly impacting gospel, soul, and popular music.
