Trilok Gurtu (born October 30, 1951) is an Indian percussionist and composer known for blending Indian classical music with jazz and world music. Born into a musical family, he learned tabla from his father and vocal music from his mother. Gurtu created a unique percussion style by combining tabla with drum kit, collaborating with artists like John McLaughlin and Don Cherry. His work has influenced global percussion and world music.
