Zachary Taylor was the 12th President of the United States, born on November 24, 1784, and died on July 9, 1850. A retired military officer, he gained fame for his bravery in the Mexican War. Taylor was elected president in 1849 as the Whig candidate, but his presidency was short-lived as he died in office.
