Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin was an American publisher and social reformer, a prominent figure in the women's suffrage and civil rights movements of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Born on August 31, 1842, she dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of African American women and was one of the first African American women to publish a newspaper. Ruffin passed away on March 13, 1924. more
