Robert W. Service (January 16, 1874 – September 11, 1958) was a British-Canadian poet known for his narrative poems about the Yukon Gold Rush and the wilderness. Born in Preston, England, he moved to Scotland as a child and immigrated to Canada in 1894. While working as a bank clerk in Dawson City, Yukon, he wrote classics like 'The Shooting of Dan McGrew' and 'The Cremation of Sam McGee.'
