Sholem Asch was a prominent Yiddish novelist, playwright, and essayist. Born on November 1, 1880, in the town of Czernowitz, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Asch's work focused on the experiences of Jewish immigrants in the United States. His writing often explored themes of identity, assimilation, and the struggle for social justice. Asch's most famous novel, 'The Brothers Ashkenazi' (1908), is considered a cornerstone of modern Yiddish literature. He passed away on July 10, 1957. more
