Josei Toda (February 11, 1900 – April 2, 1958) was a Japanese educator, publisher, and the second president of the Soka Gakkai, a Buddhist organization. Born in Ishikawa Prefecture, he co-founded the Soka Kyoiku Gakkai with Tsunesaburo Makiguchi. During World War II, he was imprisoned for opposing the militarist government. After the war, he rebuilt the Soka Gakkai into one of Japan's largest Buddhist groups.
