Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander (January 2, 1898 – November 1, 1989) was a pioneering American lawyer and social reformer who broke numerous racial and gender barriers. She became the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in the United States and the first African American woman admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar. Throughout her career, she dedicated herself to civil rights and public service, serving on President Truman's President's Committee on Civil Rights.
