Billie Burke (August 7, 1884 – May 14, 1970) was an American actress best known for playing Glinda the Good Witch in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. Born in Washington, D.C., she moved to England as a child and began her stage career in London. Returning to the U.S. in 1907, she became a major Broadway star. She transitioned to film in the 1910s and appeared in over 70 movies. Known for her elegant demeanor, distinctive voice, and comedic talent, Burke left a lasting legacy in both theater and cinema.
